WORTHINGTON FIRE OFFERS SMOKE DETECTOR ASSISTANCE

The Worthington Division of Fire & EMS would like the citizens of the City of Worthington to know that fighting fires is only ONE of the jobs that your Fire Department performs. Along with this, EMS services and Fire Prevention are of the utmost importance.

We feel that one of the best ways to show our commitment is through public education and awareness. Statistics show that about 88% of homes have smoke detectors, but that only 1/3 of those actually work. Monthly checks of your smoke detectors are recommended with battery changes every 6 months. Changing the batteries in your smoke detectors when you change your clocks (to or from Daylight Savings Time) is easy to remember and could help save your family from tragedy.

For those families who might not be able to install a smoke detector or maintain the batteries, a simple call to the fire department will solve those problems, as the fire department has a supply of new smoke detectors and batteries on hand. The firefighters will be happy to make a visit to assist those people with special needs.

To schedule an appointment for assistance, call the department during business hours at 885-7640 or 885-5488.
